Although the Daily Show has become a comedic critique of the current political environment, its host, Jon Stewart, has shown himself to be as serious as a heart attack when it comes to his ingrained personal beliefs. Everyone watched on CNN's Crossfire as he verbally and ethically beat the shit out of Tucker Carlson and disseminated his stupid bowtie in front of millions. He seriously just went on that show and dissed the shit out of 'em, telling them that their show was "hurting America" and doing a disservice to its audience. News spread fast and another unlikely hero stepped into the spotlight of dissention. Even Stewart's tearful and heartfelt monologue of the first Daily Show after 9/11 gripped the emotions of everyone watching as he didn't hold back and let it all out on camera, proving himself to be a genuine, caring human being.
In 2004, Stewart co-authored America (The Book): A Citizen's Guide to Democracy Inaction along with Ben Karlin, David Javerbaum, and other writers of The Daily Show, and won a Grammy for Best Comedy Album for the audio book edition.
