The Sunday Times of Britain reported in June 2002 that two years before 9/11 American intelligence agencies were warned by the British intel service MI6 about the exact same scenario that took place that day. In 1999 the American embassy in London's Grosvenor Square had received what they called a "secret report" by MI6 after they had acquired intel that Bin Laden's group was planning actions in which commercial aircraft was to be used in "unconventional ways".

The Times noted that according to intelligence sources, the information received didn't name any specific targets, and may not have even prevented the 9/11 attacks.

The paper quoted a senior Foreign Office source as saying, "The Americans knew of plans to use commercial aircraft in unconventional ways, possibly as flying bombs."

As usual, a spokesperson for the US declined to comment on the issue.
